Help
YearWorks is in free beta and opens to new teachers on October 1, 2026. Everything below reflects how the product behaves today.
- Can I start after the school year has begun?
- Yes. On the Start point step choose “I've already started my school year”, then tell YearWorks today's date and where your class is now. Everything before that point is treated as completed history and is never scheduled into the future.
- What does recalculation change?
- Nothing changes until you approve it. YearWorks shows the proposed changes first. When you approve them, it updates only the unfinished part of your year, preserves what you have already taught, and records the change so you can undo it in one step.
- Does adding a lesson change my plan before I've written it?
- No. Add lesson opens an editor and nothing else. Opening it or cancelling it creates nothing at all - no lesson, no date, no change to your counts. The lesson is added only after you choose Save lesson, and on a day that already holds a lesson, only after you have also approved how it fits.
- What happens when a lesson lands on a day that already has one?
- YearWorks asks how it should fit and never guesses. Neither Stack nor Shift is preselected, and nothing moves until you choose. Stack keeps both lessons on that day in the order you set and moves nothing else. Shift slides the sequence forward to the next open teaching day, skipping weekends, holidays, and closures. If a shift cannot fit, YearWorks walks you through the ways to make room instead of forcing it. Nothing is ever replaced or overwritten.
- Can I undo something?
- Yes. Undo restores the complete last approved operation atomically - every placement, stack, shift, guided resolution, move, duplicate, and new lesson is saved as one step, with the exact dates, order, contingency days, and counts you had before. It still works after a reload, and if there is nothing to undo, YearWorks says so rather than pretending.
- Where do lessons go when they have no date?
- They live in the Lesson Library. Library lessons never count toward instructional-day balance, flex counts, or lessons still to teach.
- Can I edit an official lesson?
- Yes. Learning objectives and success criteria are editable on every lesson. Your edits are an amendment to this plan only and never change the course template.
